One of the hardest lessons to learn as a photographer is to just let life happen. Don't try to manipulate, invade or control every second that you are on a job or have a camera in your hand. Capture the moments as they come because that is life. And life, is art.
This one looks so much better when it's nice and big... so classy.

When a new year begins it's always fun to look back at the work that you did that previous year. Yesterday as I was looking through Ashley and Jesse's gallery I found some more of my favorites from that day.
... and because I love the color as much as I love these in black and white.

I've spent the last two days trying to figure out which photos I wanted to put up on the blog as sneak peeks. There were so many moment photos that I wasn't going to post any posed shots but then the snow was so pretty that day - I went with a little bit of both. Although l will have to do another post soon because there are so many images that I love from this day.
Flower arrangements by Julie
the flowergirl getting her hair done
I love these next shots... trying to get from the house to see her groom with her baby brother leading the way. I love the boots, too
First looks:
.. and some formal shots.
When I get home from a wedding the girls often look over my shoulder as I download from the cards to the computer to see who got married. I told them that the bride had three of her sisters stand for her and pointed them out. I then mentioned to them that moments like this picture below is one of my greatest wishes for them and their sisters. I won't repeat what their reply was because it wasn't very inspiring but.... I'm still holding out..... and I hope to someday see my girls in such a photo.
The flowergirl and her grandpa right before walking down the aisle.
..... and since this is really only supposed to be a sneak peek and not the entire gallery, I'll stop now.
Monica, I believe the snow fell just for you so you could have your wintery white wedding. Congratulations again, Matt and Monica, thanks for letting me be part of your day.
Happy Wednesday, everyone!

When Jessica and Kevin booked their date it was well over a year away. It's amazing how these months pass by so quickly. We had an engagment session last fall and then two weeks ago their wedding wrapped up my 2011 wedding season at beautiful Waldenwoods Resort. It has been a great year and it ended working with a fantastic couple with a wonderful group of friends. Kevin and Jessica, I hope that you love the little peek into your day.
Jess getting pampered.
.... and this is what was going on at the guys pad. Kevin is huge fan of football....
.... and a little peek at the game.
Kevin being model-like: they really were a fun crew. :)
Beautiful, beautiful!
What would you do without sisters, love this.
The DJ, and also a good friend of the bride and groom. I love this picture and all of its grain.
.. and that is all for me this morning, I may add more later on today but I need to get the kids up for school- thank you again Jessica and Kevin, you were a pleasure to work with!
Happy Tuesday, everyone!

I've been here most of the morning trying to figure out which pictures to post for Brion and Krystal's sneak peek. I'm not getting very far- every time I look at their gallery I come across another picture that I want to show. So..... I decided that I just need to stop. I'll have to post some more later but for now, here is a tiny peek into Krystal and Brion's big day.
First looks:
I found this location on the way to Krystal's sister's house the day of the wedding, so we stopped here for a few minutes on the way to our original plan.
One of the funnest moments for me of the day is when the bride and groom put on their rings for pictures- such a sweet moment.
These next two are a couple of my all time favorites.... the light- how I love this light.
I had a really hard time not turning all of the pictures into black and whites today.
Thank you Brion and Krystal for letting us be part of your day. I wish you love and happiness always!

I am spending way too long trying to figure out what pictures to post for Dan and Celia's sneak peek so I'm going to stop right now and just post the post already. :)
I'm pretty sure Dan and Celia win the award for the hottest wedding day for me this year- it was a scortcher, and neither bride nor groom said a peep about it. We knew that rain was in the forcast so I think we were all thanking our lucky stars that it was holding off for us.
The bride getting ready, the gown was worn by her grandmother- it was beautiful! I think everyone got teary when all of the buttons were buttoned and zipped.
The beautiful flowers:
this is when the rain hit-- perfect timing for sure!
.... and one last one.
Dan and Celia, may you be this happy always! Thank you for letting me photograph your very special day!

So..... sources who are way cooler than I tell me that JCL Portraits should have its own facebook page. Since I do intend to keep up with all things great and not so new...... I would love for all of you 241 blog likers to scootch along over to my facebook page and like me over there as well.
All others are welcome :)
I'm sorry that I can't give you anything at moment for liking me- however, I did just make some blueberry muffins so if you want to come over, I'll make some coffee to go with them. The table may or may not be cleared off.
Soon, I promise, I'll have a blog post with more than one photo on it.

I have been spending my evenings with these pictures this week and am just about to send them off after I rest my eyes a bit and check them over one last time. Here are a few more from Jeff and Melissa's day that caught my eye.
First looks:
Deep breath:
I didn't even catch this set the first time I went through the pictures but I think that these are a few of my favorite from the entire day.
I love how the bouquets are up to their chins.
.... and one last one.
You can see more wedding pictures here. Congratulations again, Jeff and Melissa!
Have a great day, everyone!
