When a new year begins it's always fun to look back at the work that you did that previous year. Yesterday as I was looking through Ashley and Jesse's gallery I found some more of my favorites from that day.
... and because I love the color as much as I love these in black and white.

Enjoy your Sunday!

I was just tellling the kids last night that I was excited they had the day off so we could do some winter things that we weren't able to do Christmas time due to the lack of snow. We had plans to find a sledding hilll and maybe go to my sisters house for a quick evening skate if they were around.... we woke up to 45 degrees and all of the snow that was on the ground 8 hours ago......gone. replaced with puddles and mud.
I'm ready to pack it up and go north for a month.
I won't- however I was looking through my pictures while we were up north this summer and found this one of Elizabeth and Kaarina. I don't remember what was so funny at the time but looking at it now makes me smile. Even on a 45 degree "winter" day.
Happy Monday everyone

Sometimes I wonder if it would be smart of me to pick one catagory of photography: market and specialize to that certain group. The problem is: I love all of it. I love that one day I get to take photos of a baby who just turned one, then next session I get to witness one of the happiest day in a couples life and 5 days later- I get to document a long awaited pregnancy.. for triplets none the less!
I guess choosing isn't an option for now.
I just took these off of my card and thought that I'd quickly share one from my session yesterday. Such a fun session with two very lovely people- I'll be thinking of you guys and the boys often!
I'm off now to read my girl some books and put my tired baby to sleep. Have a great weekend everyone!

I've spent the last two days trying to figure out which photos I wanted to put up on the blog as sneak peeks. There were so many moment photos that I wasn't going to post any posed shots but then the snow was so pretty that day - I went with a little bit of both. Although l will have to do another post soon because there are so many images that I love from this day.
Flower arrangements by Julie
the flowergirl getting her hair done
I love these next shots... trying to get from the house to see her groom with her baby brother leading the way. I love the boots, too
First looks:
.. and some formal shots.
When I get home from a wedding the girls often look over my shoulder as I download from the cards to the computer to see who got married. I told them that the bride had three of her sisters stand for her and pointed them out. I then mentioned to them that moments like this picture below is one of my greatest wishes for them and their sisters. I won't repeat what their reply was because it wasn't very inspiring but.... I'm still holding out..... and I hope to someday see my girls in such a photo.
The flowergirl and her grandpa right before walking down the aisle.
..... and since this is really only supposed to be a sneak peek and not the entire gallery, I'll stop now.
Monica, I believe the snow fell just for you so you could have your wintery white wedding. Congratulations again, Matt and Monica, thanks for letting me be part of your day.
Happy Wednesday, everyone!

I'm up processing pictures right now and thought I'd share a couple of my studio shots before and after processing. I've gotten a few emails recently about my post processing and how I make skin nice and the eyes pop. The truth is- I'm not a huge photoshop girl. My husband is very good at it and has taught me what I know... and I am proud to say that I have learned a few tricks over the years but he's still much better at it than I . In emergencies I can ask him for help and he always is more than willing to but..... I try not to.
I think that a huge factor to good skin and good eyes is great light. So I rely on my photography skills more than my software knowledge. Granted this is a baby and babies usually do have nice skin BUT.. it's even nicer when the light is right, and your focus is tack sharp.
Here's my straight out of the camera shot.... remember that I shoot in RAW so they come out of the camera as unprocessed as they can be- a little dull with less contrast than what is usually seen in photos. When you shoot JPEGS - the camera processes them and adds all of the colors/contrasts for you.
I took some of the pink out of the image, warmed it up a tad, added some black- retouched his skin just a bit, sharpened the eyes just a tiny bit and darkened the edges just enough that you can barely tell.
Here's another set:
Before processing, again in RAW, some of the blue from the backdrop was picked up in his skin and cooled it down too much so I warmed him up and did the same thing as the previous set of images-
after processing
I do think that post processing is necessary but I think that good out of the camera is key. Use photoshop to fix as your backup plan.
That's all from me this fine evening... morning.... weekend...
Have a great weekend!

just in case you haven't heard me the last three times I"ve mentioned it. ha!
I've had my backdrops out and my studio set up in my livingroom since Saturday-- I think I've bribed away more pieces of gum to my kids than ever before in that time period. I guess it's time for me to put it away for a while, it gets to be quite the circus in the house when my stuff is up for too long. If Andrew cooperates I'll try to do a couple more pictures of him this morning after his bath and show a pull back shot of my set up for anyone who is interested. If he's doesn't cooperate then maybe next time.
Happy Wednesday, everyone- remember 5 o'clock be there... or... not ;0)
