Dan and Kelli {Livingston County Wedding Photographer}

I had to dive into these just a little tiny bit before heading on vacation..... Dan and Kelli got married on Saturday and there was no way I could let them sit untouched.   Here are a few that jumped out at me as I go through these with one eye:

Sweet Baby Girl {Livingston County Newborn Photographer}

Last night when I heard the clock doing the 3 am dings  for the 5th night in a row I was kind of thinking to myself, "what in the world have I gotten myself into with this business of mine" .... but then this morning I got to play with this little dolly and I was reminded rather quickly how much I love to do this.

The 10 to 3:30 am Shift....

it seems like this is the way it's going to be this summer with the big kids home.  Last night I pulled the last loaf of bread out of the oven at 3 in the morning while I was processing some wedding pictures, hoping to get them finished up before I go on vacation- but this is what we've been doing during the days so it's all worth it....  it's all about balance.... and strong coffee late at night.

I May Just Keep Him {Livingston County Children's Photographer}

..but i'm pretty sure his mom and dad wouldn't agree to it.

Geesh, where in the world do the weeks go.. it's crazy- every other day seems like Saturday. I had this session last Tuesday- this little guy and I made some tracks in a nearby field, stopping once in a while to get some photos for his mom and dad....

Thanks for coming to see me, guys.....  your album will be ready shortly.

Officially Five

My Rebecca Marie is officially five... well, her birthday was on the 11th but she refused to be five until we had a party so....  we had a party of course.  I think she's got my number.

-31-Edit-Edit

A couple of things I need to put down on here because I haven't written in her baby book for some time now.

* This is the first birthday of all of my kids where I feel a little bit sad that time goes by so fast. I"m not ready to have her be five.

* She still can't pronounce her R's.... most of the time everything with an "r" sound  sounds like a "w"

*She realizes that she doesn't say them right and when she remembers she over-corrects herself.

*I need to get a recording of her saying her prayers  before she learns to pronounce all of her letters correctly because it is the sweetest sounding thing I've ever heard in my life.

*She's stubborn and she's not shy to tell you what she really thinks.

*She cries quite a bit and doesn't hold back on throwing fits if she doesn't like something.

*She's really good with Aubrey and acts like the big sister she is towards her.

*She clings when she's in a store or a strange place but she happily goes to preschool, library and to anyone else's house who will take her that she knows.

*I"m not ready to send her to school in the fall but she says she's ready to go.

*If Kaarina refuses to do something that she's supposed to, Rebecca tries to coax her so she doesn't get in trouble by us. "Kaarina, just pick up the cereal that you threw on the floor, here- I'll even help you."

*She's mad at the jump rope that she got for a birthday present because she she tried it three whole times and she still couldn't get it right.  She says she hates it and it's stupid ... and she doesn't want anyone to give her lessons on it.

*She names her blankets and has them put on her bed in a certain order at night. The order changes nightly.

*She's a computer junky

*She has really, really neat handwriting for someone her age and always has.

*If I think of it I can hear her laugh...  if I think of it, I can hear all of my kids' laughs.

*She thinks she's too old for Kaarina now even though Kaarina is not even 19 months younger... and wants friends over constantly

*The night before her birthday Den and I told her about how little she was, how we got her name and how strong she was when she was just a newborn---  she loved hearing it.

*She doesn't like cleaning - and does a really bad job of it....  she just stashes things in her closet every which way... and exclaims very loudly when we ask her to do something, "you mean I have to do it all by myself ?!?".  Like how dare we tell her to pick her dirty clothes off of her floor.

*I told her that she has sparkly eyes like diamonds one day and she's clung to it. I think she does have the sparkliest eyes.

*Her and Kaarina say that they're going to be the prettiest on any given day.

*She was on a kick of crawling in our bed for a while but seems to have gotten over it and now she just sometimes goes on the couch in our room.

*I'm not quite ready for her to be five yet...  but I guess that I've already mentioned that.

*Now I feel like I need to take her out of her bed and cozy for a couple hours before I blink and she's 6.

A Quick Lighting Tip.....

I was processing these wedding photos (only about 350 more to go and don't you just love the flower girl in this photo--  poor honey had enough already) and thought that this little tip might be helpful to some of you photographers out there.

Lisa-320-2-Edit-Edit

(40mm, f 7.1, ss 1/50, ISO 320)

As you know, every type of light has a different color temperature.  Daylight, flourescent, etc. etc.  when taking pictures inside (or outside too) it's important to make sure all of your light source temperatures are consistant.  In this church there is a big beaming light (flourescent maybe?) that is usually on behind the chairs, lights on the ceiling, daylight through the windows and I had my two lights (which give off daylight).  To mix the daylight with the church lights would have made all sorts of wonky colors  because you wouldn't be able to get a good white balance - this would be hard to fix in photoshop. To get a good color, I turned off all of the lights in the church and relied soley on my two studio lights and what little daylight was coming through the door and windows... dragged the shutter to lighten up the background and took the picture.  Another way to do it is to gel your studio lights so they give off the same temperature as your inside lights..... I don't have any gels.

That sounded so knowitallish- and I realize that I don't know it all.....  I just know some.

Now I need to get my kids to clean up their rooms- it should take me all day.

Friday's Session- {Livingston County Children's Photographer}

These two little ladies came to see me Friday afternoon- when their mom told me that she usually prefers black and white to color and loves the serious faces of her kids..... I almost told her that she's my new best friend.

These first three photos were taken in natural light....  I was able to get some really nice light in their eyes from my window.

Then I set up my lights.

Have I ever mentioned how important it is to get a picture of you and your babies? It's important- you'll never regret doing it...  and having that image will be priceless to you and to your baby forever. Have I convinced you yet?   Now go and hand your camera off to your neighbor....  or I can do it.  :)

Mark and Lisa, pt. 1 {Livingston County Wedding Photographer}

You know, for a girl who eloped I sure do love weddings.... it's like 10 straight hours of pretty. Pretty (and happy) people, pretty dresses, pretty colors and pretty photos... as a photographer, you just can't beat that.

The way down to the pond wasn't so great- We had to walk through some seriously long grass to get there and I was holding my breath and crossing my fingers that Lisa and Mark would agree to the jaunt - they did, and it paid off because the light there was perfect....perfect.

I could go on and on with the processing of these but I have some not so pretty laundry piling up as I type.

Happy Monday, everyone.

Oh Elizabeth....

we always sing that song to her...  she used to get annoyed at us but now she just sings along. It's a good song... she's a good girl.
